Welcome to the NFL FanDuel Week 9 Top Plays. I will highlight the best cash game, value plays, and GPP options with FanDuel’s scoring/salary in mind. These can typically be used on all sites, but use some common sense if another site scores differently or has a different salary. Remember, this is only a guide, and several factors may influence who you should select each day. Please keep in mind that unless noted, weather is not taken into account and with NFL action, it can be a factor.
Ben Roethlisberger (PIT): $7,600 @ IND
Normally I do not trust Ben Roethlisberger on the road, but this matchup is too good to ignore. As you may recall, Roethlisberger did really well against the Colts in Indy last season on Thanksgiving night, throwing for 221 yards and three scores. Not much has changed with the Colt’s defense and he should be a great bargain this Sunday with a ton of upside.
Matthew Stafford (DET): $8,200 vs. CLE
Matthew Stafford has been excellent over his past three games, throwing for at least 300 yards in all three games. This week he has an extremely favorable matchup against the Browns, who have been awful against the pass this season.
Le’Veon Bell (PIT): $9,400 @ IND
By using Roethlisberger it really frees up some salary to spend up at multiple spots in our lineup. I’m definitely going to spend up for Le’Veon Bell this Sunday against the Colts considering they have allowed the third-most FanDuel points to opposing running backs this season.
Todd Gurley (LAR): $9,600 vs. HOU
If you read my players to fade article yesterday here on FantasyPros, you may think I am contradicting myself with listing Todd Gurley in this article. However, I stated that I was only fading him because of salary. In this format his salary really does not restrict you from spending up at other spots, so he is definitely play. The Texans have done pretty well against the run this season, but that does not scare me since the Rams should be in complete control of this game. Therefore, the volume will definitely be there for one of the top running backs in the NFL.
Jordan Howard (CHI): $7,200 vs. GB
The Bears have been extremely conservative with Mitch Trubisky which has resulted in Jordan Howard having a heavy workload each week. This week Howard has an outstanding matchup against the Packers who have allowed the fourth-most FanDuel points to opposing running backs.
Antonio Brown (PIT): $9,300/JuJu Smith-Schuster $6,500 @ IND
To complete my trio of Steelers’ players, I plan on using Antonio Brown. This is one of the rare situations where you can trust three players from the same team in your lineup, since a large percentage of the touches and targets funnel through Brown and Bell. Brown carved the Colts up last Thanksgiving night for five receptions, 91 yards and three touchdowns. Their secondary has not improved much from last season, so we should feel confident that Brown will do well again. If you want some cheaper exposure to the Steelers' offense, consider using JuJu Smith-Schuster. Martavis Bryant is in the dog house and JuJu stepped up in a big way in the Steelers' last game against the Lions, hauling in seven passes for 193 yards and a touchdown.
Sterling Shepard (NYG): $5,700 @ SF
Another cheap option who I really love this week is Sterling Shepard. In his first game back from injury, Shepard caught five passes for 70 yards on nine targets. After Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall went down with season-ending injuries, Eli Manning really does not have much to throw to outside of Evan Engram and Shepard. These two should continue to have a very large role in the Giants’ passing game and this week they have a great matchup against the 49ers.
Golden Tate (DET): $7,400/Marvin Jones $6,400 vs. CLE
I already mentioned that I really like Matthew Stafford this week, so naturally I’m going to like at least one wide receiver from the Lions as well. Both Golden Tate and Marvin Jones are in play this week, depending on how much salary you have left. Tate has been getting the targets, receptions and yardage, but Jones has been getting the touchdowns. Regardless, both are solid options against a pretty bad Browns’ secondary.
Kyle Rudolph (MIN): $5,400 @ WAS
Tight end is a tough position to figure out this week since there aren't a lot of attractive, affordable options. Despite having a down season, I do like Kyle Rudolph this week. The Redskins have allowed the fourth-most FanDuel points to opposing tight ends.
Vernon Davis (WAS): $5,300 vs. MIN
On the opposite side of the field, Vernon Davis makes for a solid option again this week if Jordan Reed is out again. In Reed's absence last week, Davis had 72 receiving yards on six receptions and nine targets.
- Mike Nugent (Dal): $4,700 @ ATL
- Chris Boswell (PIT): $4,800 @ IND
- Kai Forbath (MIN): $4,800 @ WAS
Steelers PIT @ IND $4,600
The Steelers have been solid this season on the defensive side of the ball and the Colts currently allow the most FanDuel points against opposing defenses.
Rams LAR vs. HOU $5,400
I don't think I'm spending up at defense this week, but if you decide to do so, go with the Rams. The Texans' offense struggled to get much going last week against the Colts with Deshaun Watson out for the rest of the season. I cannot see them doing any better this week against a much better defense.
